“Eight weeks later I hiked the 8 ½ miles!”

John was very active leading high adventure trips with Boy Scout Troop 19. He estimates he averages 150 miles a year hiking, backpacking, and canoeing, including intensive backpacks at Philmont Scout Ranch in the New Mexico Rockies.

Knee pain and surgeries were leading him to think about “slowing down”.

Dr. Berger performed knee replacement on January 15, 2014.  Eight weeks later he hiked the 8 ½ mile Potawatomie Trail at Indiana Dunes State Park.  June was kayaking and rafting on the New River in West Virginia.

Completing the 2014 summer season was a backpack at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in August with no adverse effects.
